Plein Air Painting Gear & Supplies

  1.      Folding Easel / Pochade Box (panel holder + palette to mix paints on)

  2.      Camera Tripod (if using a pochade box that requires one)

  3.      Paint Brushes & Palette Knife

  4.      Oil Paints

  5. Leakproof jar with solvent

  6.      Paper towel

  7.      Trash bag to dispose of dirty paper towels

  8.      Cap or sun-hat

  9.      Water bottle (for keeping hydrated!)

  10. Canvas Panels (not pictured)

  11. ‍ ‍Wet panel carrier (not pictured)

  12. Insect Repellent and Sunscreen (not pictured)

  13. ‍ ‍Viewfinder (not pictured)

  14. Sketchbook + pencil and grayscale markers (or this alternative) + white marker for compositional value thumbnails (not pictured)

  15. Optional: easel umbrella (not pictured). An umbrella that can attach to the tripod or the easel can help you see color and values better when you have to paint in the open sun. Here are some options: option 1 | option 2 (I personally prefer a white translucent umbrella to the more popular silver exterior with black interior.)
